It’s been a great year for storytelling! We’ve heard so many inspiring stories from our staff, donors and volunteers, and through our Grey Mist Lifting blog we’ve had the opportunity to share these stories with you, too.
Here are five of our favourites from 2015:
Little Livia from Kenya received a pair of brand new, prescription eyeglasses – now she can enjoy school and play with her friends. Her smile is contagious!
In July, world-class athlete Norma Bastidas (centre) ran 135 miles (217 km) across Death Valley, California to raise money for Operation Eyesight. And our very own Rob Ohlson, Chair of the Operation Eyesight Canada Board of Directors (second from the right), joined her run crew.
Seven-year-old Malang from India had been blind his whole life, until a community health worker discovered he had congenital cataracts in both eyes. After having surgery, he is a happy, independent child!
Fourteen-year-old Ekow’s life changed dramatically the day an outreach team from Watborg Eye Services in Ghana visited his school. They discovered that Ekow needed eyeglasses, which were provided to him free-of-charge – thanks to our donors!
Already grieving the loss of his beloved wife, Jaa felt completely defeated when he started to lose his eyesight. Fortunately, his son brought him to one of our partner hospitals in Zambia, where he was diagnosed and treated.
We have many more heartwarming stories and photos to share with you in the coming year, so please check back every Tuesday. And if you have a story you’d like to share, please do! You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support in 2015, and best wishes for the new year!
